It is not necessary to venture off
the estate to enjoy a quiet ramble along the
old via Aurelia - which
once stretched from Rome to Arles - or a climb to the
top of the
Aiguille to explore the remains of a Roman lookout post hidden
among
the trees.
As the seasons change in the Alpilles,
February's glorious almond blossom
is soon followed by carpets of
wild flowers. Then, as the heat turns up, the
blue iris and wisteria
of May and June give way to the brightly coloured flowers
of high
summer. In the soft warmth of autumn the vineyards and olive groves
are alive with activity as attention turns to the harvest.
